Today we departed Berlin for a long day of travel and sight seeing. We left early to try to get to Dresden early, however, we hit the worst traffic jam that Dresden has ever experienced. Why? Last night the main bridge in Dresden collapsed.

Nobody was hurt, thankfully. Our local tour guide commented that it was built during communist times. Dresden is known for its architecture, art treasures, and political past. The city was heavily bombed and destroyed during WWII and subsequently rebuilt.
(I also didn’t realize that 75% of Berlin was destroyed too). What a great comeback Germany has made. I also learned that Putin lived in Dresden once upon a time with the KGB.

The weather was freezing today. Ok maybe not freezing but for someone with desert DNA, growing up in the sunshine state and living in the desert currently, it was a lot of me. I was shivering for most of the visit; don’t worry, I purchased a scarf.

I still managed to snap some photos and get a hold of a hot coffee. I take back what I said in an earlier post about coffee; it really depends on the city. Berlin had amazing lattes that you could take to go and Dresden wasn’t too bad either. We stopped at a restaurant here called Dresden 1900 and we each ordered a lamb shank that was probably better suited for dinner. No regrets though!

Also I should add, the word “farht” in German means journey or drive but I can’t help giggling every time I see it. On the way back to the bus, Matt insisted we retrace our steps to get back instead of using google maps to navigate to where I had set a pin. I love that man so much but navigation is definitely my thing. We were a few minutes late but the bus waited for us thankfully.

Our next stop was Leipzig. Again. Gorgeous architecture all around. Johann Sebastian Bach was known to work here and is buried in the main cathedral. We immediately got lost from our group upon stepping off the bus since we both had to use the restroom. We might actually be the youngest two on the coach but we definitely have the worst bladder control. It was nice to get a little lost though. It helped us explore on our own time and see what we really wanted to see.

Matt is getting too good at his German. The locals have been talking to him in German and he understands a lot of it. Me on the other hand. I’m great at numbers and trains. We’re built a little different but it’s a great balance.
Tonight we had an included dinner at our hotel in Leipzig. It was actually buffet style and pretty good. I might even be inspired to get up early for their breakfast. Maybe. At dinner, we caught up with our new friends Jane and Rex again who are both in their mid 80s and look amazing.
