I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before but the sun rises every morning around 6:00am and I have a skylight on the ceiling of my bedroom; so even on chill days like today, I have to battle the sun to sleep in. I ended up waking up at 8, eating breakfast, and then going back to sleep. Isabella woke me later to use the bathroom and I finally got up for good around noon. The day was kind of a drag. We wandered around the city looking for laundromats; instead, we found 3 dry cleaners. Then I realized I didn't have any milk for breakfast tomorrow. We shifted our goal to finding a grocery store, but it seems that they all close at 1:00 pm on Sundays. Bummer!
At some point Isabella and I decided to get some food. We went back to a Turkish place that we ate at before that has really good kebab. I decided to go all out this time and get a "Mixte" plate which is a little bit of everything. It was delicious–but I have to say the best part was the lamb. It began pouring as soon as we entered, and stopped raining as we were leaving. I guess the dark rain cloud was following someone else today.
Moving on…
Since lunch was so filling, we had a late dinner at around 9. Jackson, Charlene, Harish, Isabella, and I met at St. Michel to try a new restaurant. (It seems like my entire blog is about food, but like I said, I don't have the option to eat in.) Isabella chose this time; it was a very small restaurant that had to seat us on the 2nd floor since they didn't have any tables big enough to seat 5 people on the first floor. Charlene tried to move us outside, but just as we stepped out the door, it began to rain. The waiter was overly friendly and kept asking us if we wanted whiskey. We continuously asked for water but he went on and on with his "joke." I think he may have possibly had some whiskey before serving us.
My main course was lamb leg, and it came with french fries. Actually they're just fries here, because everything is French. The fries tasted so bad– kind of like chemicals. I told everyone, but they just said they tasted fine, and I got called the usual names "high maintenance", "diva", "pessimistic", etc. They suggested ketchup and salt; I tried both. I drowned the fries in salt and ketchup but they still tasted like chemicals. Harish said he kind of understood me, but he didn't care. He ate his fries, and then mine (and my lamb fat). Dinner was a blast. We ended up joking about each other's native languages. I taught them how to say a few things in Arabic and now Jackson thinks Arabic is like a ghost language. We laughed all the way until the restaurant closed and we got booted. It's nights like these that I think I will remember the most.
