The original plan was for us to wake up at 6am and go to the Anne Frank house to get in line. That didn't work out. So instead we headed to the Van Gogh museum. It was very impressive. I wonder how much more he would have accomplished if he had lived longer. Being in the museum made me think of Monica since she is so into art. I decided to get her a souvenir from there. Lidia and I finished the museum earlier than the others so we headed to the park behind the museum. The weather was sunny and beautiful– its no wonder why I already like Amsterdam more than Paris. I fall asleep in the grass until some strange man walks past us and makes a weird spitting sound. Lidia and I look at each other confused, and just start to laugh.
We reunite with the others for lunch and then Jean heads back to the hostel for a nap. We decide we'll meet later at the Anne Frank house and then dinner. Of course, we split up into Asians and non-Asians. Lidia and I wander around Damurak Street and find a rather cheap museum. We go in for a few minutes and realize why it was so cheap. Then we're off to the Anne Frank house. The only thing I did not enjoy about it was waiting in the hot sun for a ticket. However, after going inside, we realize it was definitely worth the wait. It was such an wonderful experience to see the place where Anne Frank and her family hid during the Holocaust. Absolutely surreal! We went in through a door hidden by a bookshelf on one of the lower levels. When we got up, we saw the entire space where the families had stayed. Some things were still intact, like the pictures she had glued to the walls of her bedroom. Unfortunately, we could not take pictures, so I cannot share the experience as vividly as I would've liked to.
Our next stop was dinner. This time we all ate together at a Mexican restaurant called Tex-Mex. I realize that most of the food places here offer food from other countries rather than the Netherlands. How ironic. Finally, it was time to mark one more thing off our bucket list–visiting the red light district. Most of us are not sure what to expect. We went rather early so I'm told it was not too bad. There were definitely red lights…
